    BATH TO THE FUTURE

What does the future hold for us? Flying cars? Teleportation? Time travel? Automated robots who style your hair while you read your morning email à la Jetsons?

Whether any of these things are foreseeable is yet to be revealed, but many interior home designers are already looking to the future for inspiration. And since, in my last Bathroom Design 101 blog, I zoned in on modern bathroom design, I felt I could only go another step forward for this one.

Maybe you have a bathroom remodeling project on the horizon and you’re in need of some fresh, futuristic ideas, or perhaps you just want to be transported to a different time when you enter your bathroom – a time that doesn’t even exist yet…

Tomorrow’s bathrooms are geared toward rejuvenation, therapy – and the bathtubs and showers of the future will be all-in-one spa centers. This installment of Kiki’s Bathroom Design 101 is going to give you some bathroom remodeling ideas you can use if you truly do wish to step into the future of bathing technology.

This is as futuristic as it gets; a hydro-therapeutic egg-shaped self-contained shower and bathtub, complete with hydro massage and mood lighting. Hello! Where do I sign up? This would work so well in a modern loft-type apartment that has huge glass windows for a spectacular view of the big city.

If the egg shape is too alien-pod-ish for your taste, try this hydro-massage shower box equipped with Turkish bath. Cylindrically shaped, it has 12 whirlpool jets, a steam generator, a comfy seat, and well, it just looks cool – almost as though you could press a button and be teleported right out of there.

Another great space age bathroom remodeling idea is the minimal aspect of a ceiling shower right above a tub in an open concept bathroom.

For your bathing pleasure, this futuristic beignet bathtub has a very sci-fi quality, and will provide you with a rejuvenating water massage after a busy day at the space station. Complete with an illuminated shower. If the doughnut shape is not quite your thing, try this colored glossy acrylic bathtub. Bright and stylish, it comes in red, white, or blue. The sleek design makes it perfect for any futuristic-looking bathroom. Acrylic is fast becoming the primary material of choice for bathtubs, which makes BATH FITTER, manufacturer of acrylic tub liners, a very forward-thinking bathroom remodeling option.

Your futuristic bathroom will definitely need one of these cabinet door TVs. That’s right; the television is already integrated into the cabinet door. It can also be integrated into a mirror; therefore your bathroom vanity can double as entertainment while you pluck your eyebrows or trim your hair.

I adore these futuristic bathroom remodeling ideas. I love how sleek and stylish they are, and how minimalist and innovative they are, but some people might point out that there’s nothing very romantic about them. So, that’s why in my next Bathroom Design 101 blog, we’ll be designing a romantic bathroom retreat. Stay tuned!
